grease be used with D.D. swivels?
Lithium-based grease will combine with bentonite (a type of clay), which
is used to coat the walls in directional drilling. This causes the bentonite
to enter the swivel, which then seizes up. Calcium-based grease, on
the other hand, repels bentonite, allowing the swivel to turn freely.
Also, DD swivels must be greased after every use to ensure proper operation.
